LUCIA TALLOVÁ
ART BRUSSELS - BRUSSELS EXPO
24. APRIL - 27 APRIL 2025
The main objective of the presentation at Art Brussels is to showcase the full spectrum of Lucia Tallová's work, including large-scale paintings, collages, assemblages, and objects. In addition to a monumental painting from
the Clouds series (2.5 × 2 m), Tallová will present her latest assemblages from the Fragility of Caryatid series and collages from Unstable Monument.
Lucia Tallová is an established artist of the younger generation in the Slovak art scene. She is the recipient of several important awards, including the NOVUM Foundation Art Award, the Tatra Banka Foundation Award for Art,
and the Strabag Kunstforum Art Award International, among others. She has participated in residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the Headlands Center for the Arts in California, and the Karla Osorio Gallery.
In 2022, she presented a large-scale site-specific installation at the 16th Biennale de Lyon.
Her works are represented in international collections, including the Slovak National Gallery, the Kunstsammlung des Deutschen Bundestages, Strabag Kunstforum, the Museu Nacional da República, the MAR Museu de Arte do Rio, the WAP Foundation in Seoul, the Intesa SanPaolo Foundation, and many other prestigious collections.
At Art Brussles, Lucia Tallová presents new works from several ongoing series—Unstable Monument, A Room
with a View, and Fragility of Caryatid. Through photographic media, collage, and assemblage, Tallová explores
the tension between permanence and transience. Her works reimagine and repurpose fragments of the past, transforming them into evocative compositions that convey both fragility and timeless resonance.
Tallová's practice is deeply rooted in collecting and archiving. She works with found objects, old photographs, books, and discarded materials, using them as the foundation for new narratives that intertwine reality and fiction. By layering textures, surfaces, and time periods, she constructs melancholic yet poetic scenes that reflect both personal and collective memory. The patina of materials—weathered wood, ink-stained pages, and aged photographic film—becomes an active element in her process, evoking a sense of imperfection and vulnerability. Rather than presenting history as fixed and static, she allows it to shift and evolve within her compositions, inviting viewers to engage with memory in an open and subjective way.
A central theme in Tallová's work is the representation of the female figure. Her collages and assemblages often depict women in historical contexts, drawing from 19th- and early 20th-century photography. By incorporating these images, she examines the role of women across different time periods, addressing their historical invisibility
and the weight of imposed expectations. Her figures often stand frozen in complex poses, bearing silent burdens—like modern-day Caryatids, balancing between strength and erasure. Through these works, Tallová reclaims
the narratives of forgotten women, giving them presence and agency within her visual language.
By blurring the lines between documentation and imagination, history and fiction, Tallová's work invites
a contemplative experience—one that is both intimate and universal, deeply rooted in time, yet always open
to reinterpretation.
