JAN BATOREK

In his latest series of paintings, Ján Bátorek grapples with his own origins, childhood and adolescence, with the challenges and vanities of his generation. He tries to come to terms with the bigoted and nationalist currents of Slovak society, with disappointment over the reality of the desired utopian freedom, and with his own fatherhood. Visually, he confronts the legacy of romantic books and lyrical illustrations in the past typical of our region, as well as the challenge of digital transitions and structures.
