JAN VASILKO

Ján Vasilko belongs to a distinctive generation of painters entering the Slovak scene in the first decade of the 21st century. He works with the poetics of technical documentation, with strategies of visual communication and with the potential of graphic programs. His main concern is to work on a pre-imposed depersonalized plane, on a plane of prefabricated forms and shapes that can create a model world of associations without the author being in danger of falling into excessive pathos, irrationality and exaltation. The choice of this approach is also a self-defense against the escalation of emotions, which thus remain behind the filtering screen of a correct visual language, which the author, however, treats as incorrectly as possible.
